Vision 360 degrees

A sweet story is told in the Bible chapter of 2Kings chapter 6 verses 8-17. In it, the prophet Elisha and his assistant were surrounded by a hostile army, intent on capturing them. The prophet's assistant was filled with panic as he asked his boss, "Oh, sir, what will we do now?” Can you imagine the scene? The guy wakes up early in the morning to find out that he and the prophet were outmaneuvered, outnumbered and were about to be routed. There was no way on earth, he must have thought, that they could escape now.

What follows in the story inspires me never to give up in the face of adverse circumstances. There is always a way out! I may not see it, but it exists. At such times, the opportunity arises to ask God for a 360-degree vision - the ability to have insight and perspective, and to see that as hopeless as the situation may seem, for everyone who loves and fears God, the advantage is actually yours!

Back to the story. In response to the anguished cry of his servant, prophet Elisha responded, “Don’t be afraid, for there are more on our side than on theirs!” Elisha then prayed that God would give his servant what I call a 360-degree vision. God did, and the young man saw a fierce and fiery army littering the surrounding hills, ready to move at the command of the prophet in his and his servant's defense. At that moment, I surmise, the young assistant's fears faded as mist vaporises in the presence of the sun's glow.

Be assured today, dear saint, there are more on your side than on the other side, whatever 'the other side' may be. Gain insight today. Lift up your eyes. The hills are filled with holy warriors, sent from heaven. You are not alone. Be blessed today.
