When I fall

In the Bible book of Proverbs, chapter 24 and verses 15-18, the word of God prescribes the attitude that three sets of people should have. I will call them The Entrappers, The Trapped and the Smug Onlookers, respectively.

To The Entrappers, God gives this warning:

"Don’t wait in ambush at the home of the godly, and don’t raid the house where the godly live."

The Message (MSG) translation puts it this way:

"Don't interfere with good people's lives; don't try to get the best of them".

Thinking of tripping up a good person? DON'T, God warns. Your efforts will be wasted and it will all come to nothing. Why is this going to be the outcome? Because of what God says next about The Trapped. In this context, these are the good and godly people. God says

The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.

Again MSG gives these words a beautiful ring to them. The translation says

No matter how many times you trip them up, God-loyal people don't stay down long; Soon they're up on their feet...

And what of those who trip up good people? God delclares that The Trappers will "end up flat on their faces", and that "One disaster is enough to overthrow them".

While a good man is down, his enemies, the Smug Onlookers need to quickly wipe off the smirk from off their faces. In the words of Proverbs,

Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall; don’t be happy when they stumble. For the Lord will be displeased with you and will turn his anger away from them.

It is actually in the interest of a righteous man to be mocked and laughed at in his time of trouble. The more he is mocked, the quicker he gets out of trouble. And all the while God is in control of it all.

Have a great day.
