Using what you have to get what you want

Most of us have things that we want in life. We want these things with more or less desperation, earnestness or enthusiasm. I had an idea from reading G0d's word today about how to use what you have to get what you want. I was reading Proverbs 12:26-28 when I saw something interesting. Verse 27 of this passage states that

27 The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions.

Here is a man who already has the means to banish his hunger right there in front of him. He has hunted, found and killed game, yet his laziness has conscripted him to continuing hunger. "Why doesn't he just get up and prepare his meal? He need not remain hungry!", an astonished onlooker might wonder. He does not prepare his meal and he continues to be hungry because he has fallen victim to a way of life that robs him of success and victory. This man, has become lazy.

The second part of verse 27 by contrast tells us that a diligent man prizes his possessions. He knows the value of what he has and he maximises that value to his advantage. He won't sit down with hunted game and remain hungry. No, he will prepare a most delicious and satisfying meal out of it.

What do you have today, sitting in front of you, right under your nose? Do you recognize it's worth? What skills and talents do you possess? What experience have you acquired over the years that is unutilized and going to waste in front of your eyes? Do not be lazy like the man in our verse. Get up and start gathering the ingredients by which you will cook yourself out of poverty, backwardness and second-class citizenship. Remember, you have what you need to get what you want. Apply your mind to it today! God bless you. Amen.
